Launching the NEW Cleveland FES Center Website

Check out the NEW Cleveland FES Center website at www.FEScenter.org! The NEW website is designed to share, the most up-to-date, FES research information in a simple and intuitive format. The NEW website will provide the latest information on center activities, investigators, research programs and clinical trials. And, it will offer new interactive areas, such as a blog for news and events and webstreaming and archiving of FES sponsored presentations and seminars. Robert Kirsch, PhD Elected to AIMBE College of Fellows

Robert Kirsch, PhD, Associate Director of Research, Cleveland FES Center has been elected by The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) to their College of Fellows.

The College of Fellows is the highest honor in the AIMBE to recognize individuals who are outstanding in their field. These leaders have distinguished themselves through their contributions in research, industrial practice and/or education. Read the full article >>

Accomplishments & Awards

Jay Alberts, PhD received a two year NIH (R21) exploratory / developmental research grant to study "The effects of forced-exercise on motor function in Parkinson's disease patients".

Janis Daly, PhD received four year NIH Exceptional, Unconventional Research Enabling Knowledge Acceleration (EUREKA) grant, "Non-Invasive Brain Signal Training to Induce Motor Control Recovery After Stroke".

Jayme Knutson, PhD received five year funding from NIH/NICHD for new grant, "Contralaterally Controlled FES for Chronic Arm/Hand Hemiplegia: Single-Site RCT".

FES Perspective

On a bicycle just finishing a 40 mile morning ride in the Bronx (New York), Maria Sutter, then 28 years old, was hit from behind by a car resulting in a C5/C6 complete injury.

Previous to her injury Maria enjoyed a career as an architect, deeply involved with the Emerging New York Architects sub-committee of the NY American Institute of Architects. Maria’s hobbies included long distance biking, spending weekends from April through October logging 50 or 60 miles in the saddle. Read the full article >>
